Tournament schedules are posted!
The 2000-2001 Michiana junior and adult tournament schedules have been finalized by Michiana Region tournament director Dan Mullins. To view the schedules, you'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader, available for free at the link above.
   2000-2001 junior schedule
   2000-2001 adult schedule
All tournament directors have submitted the proper sanction request forms. Please note that this is a tentative list. Final sanctioning will be granted as tournament directors register with the region. Eventually, the schedules posted will list only sanctioned events. These tournaments will eventually all become sanctioned events and soon will be listed as such. All sanctioned events that are more than one day will also be listed on the USAV website.
This year's schedules feature more volleyball over a wider geographical area. We have play for almost every division on almost every weekend.
The officials clinics are tentative. A finalized list will soon be posted as referee chair Terry Sweasy completes the schedule.

Referee chair sets stage for upcoming season's certification
The following memo from Michiana Region referee chair Terry Sweasy was sent to Michiana Region referees on August 9:
Hello Everyone,
Hope you are having a great summer. Sure has gone by fast don't you think.... Before you know it we will be back in the swing of things for the new volleyball season.
I attended the Referee Chair meetings in Ohio during the U.S. Open. There were no new rule changes discussed at this meeting. I am sure there will be a few, and when they send me the information I will get it out to all of you.
The Region board meetings (Board of Directors, Junior Advisory Council and Junior Club Directors) are Aug. 19 and 20. The tournament schedule will also be completed at this time. I hope to be able to set some dates for Adult Official Clinics once I see what the Tournament Schedule looks like. If any of you are hosting a tournament and would like to hold a Clinic the night before your tournament, please e-mail me and let me know.
Everyone will be required to attend a clinic in order to obtain your licenses.
Many of you have told me that you are interested in obtaining your Jr. National or National certification. I will do my best to get as many of you as I can into the process for your upgrade. The one thing I will be looking at is of course your professionalism and your abilities when officiating. Also just as important is how much you give back to the Region: helping with clinics, helping rate new officials, and how much you're working with the Juniors Programs.
For those of you way up north, Ron Mutter will be my assistant again next year, and he will be keeping me informed as to what those of you are doing in that area.
I will know the dates of our Adult and Junior Championships after our meetings Aug. 19 and 20. If you are a Junior National or National official, you will be required to work these events. I will get the dates to you before November so that you will have lots of time to add them to your schedule.
Looking forward to seeing all of you this coming season. I want to thank you for your support last year my first as Referee Chair. I am still learning but hope to do a better job this year.
   That's all for now,
Terry L. Sweasy

Dunes 17 Black from Michigan City, Ind., are the 17 Club national champions.
Kaepa Circle City 17R from Martinsville, Ind., are the 17 Open national champions.
