USAV announces High Performance Development camp schedule

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 15, 2003) – In the High Performance Department, we have scheduled the following Boys and Girls High Performance Development Camps for our coming summer 2003 programs. Spots in these camps will be determined as a result of our tryouts, held in January and February for boys, and March and April for girls.

For girls, last year we added the Colorado Springs Camp, which was a great success. This year, to meet the needs of our East Coast athletes, we have added a camp in St. Petersburg, Fla.

For boys, we are remaining at two camps. This number will not be increased until we start pushing the attendance limit for the number of athletes that the two existing camps can handle.

The USAV Girls High Performance Development Camps will be held in five locations across the country in July. These locations are:

  • Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, Florida (July 4-8)
  • Baylor University, Waco, Texas (July 5-9)
  • University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, Colo. (July 11-15)
  • San Francisco State University, San Francisco (July 17-21)
  • Kalamazoo College, Kalamazoo, Mich. (July 18-22)

The USAV Boys High Performance Development Camps will be held in two locations across the country in July. These locations are:

  • Long Beach State University - Long Beach, Calif. (July 12-16)
  • Kent State University - Kent, Ohio (July 30 - Aug. 3)

Preventing floor damage at tournaments

To: Regional Commissioners and Tournament Directors
From: Margie Mara, Associate Executive Director, USA Volleyball
Date: October 10, 2002

During the 2001-2002 season, the USA Volleyball liability insurance coverage suffered unanticipated and extraordinarily high claims due to damage to wood floors caused by the removal of floor tape. In an effort to eliminate this problem, USA Volleyball and ESIX, the
insurance broker for USA Volleyball, urge tournament directors to use the 3M floor tape #471, which has a quick-release adhesive designed to minimize, if not eliminate, damage to floors caused by other types of tape.

Following are the phone numbers for the Sales Centers around the country. They can get the names and phone number of distributors in each area for the 471 plastic vinyl floor tape (2” x 36 yards):

Atlanta - 800-241-0111
Chicago - 800-972-0723
Dallas - 800-241-2976
Detroit - 800-241-0184
High Point - 800-742-9546
Los Angeles - 800-241-4819
New York - 800-524-0399

Industrial Markets Group
3M Center
Bldg 549-02-N-20
Phone 651-575-6577
Fax 651-737-9420

Please be aware that if we, as a group, are unable to eliminate these claims, all of our insurances rates will increase substantially. In addition, the sponsoring entity of an event that produces a floor damage claim resulting from the use of floor tape other than the 3M quick release tape product, will be subject to a deductible of $5,000.
